Our monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, April 1st at The Logan County Search & Rescue building. Tony Bivens (KN4FYL), Vice President of S.K.A.T.S., led the meeting. Trash pickup was mentioned and a show of hands for volunteers was requested. We had several volunteers, however, if more people are available, please let us know. The more hands we have, the quicker we can complete the clean-up project.

Future monthly presentations were mentioned; May will be covered by Rodney Harkleroad with Logan County Emergency Management, reviewing the club’s involvement if needed. June’s meeting will be covering Summer Field Day & our committee will be planning for the event during the weeks to come. Dusty Smith may also present directional antennas in the future.

Dusty made mention of a potential foxhunt event with the club during the later months of the year. Stephen Rogers gave the idea to have a fundraiser for this event and potential giveaways for winners of the foxhunt event. Several members sparked interest in the event.

Matthew Rainey presented POTA Activations this month and provided members with quality information. He made mention of the upcoming POTA Weekend, April 19th & 20th during the presentation & club members will be able to vote for which park(s) they would like to attend. Matthew demonstrated how to locate parks that qualify for activations, how to properly make contacts, and highlighted the importance of using phonetics during QSO’s. He showed examples of awards that can be earned for activators using pota.app accounts, including contacting all 50 states, park counts, and park to park awards. Matthew reviewed rules for POTA Club Activations & noted that “passing the mic” isn’t permitted during club events since all members use the club callsign.
